Tonight, Jordan played hockey at Mountain Arena in Hamiliton. This was “my” arena growing up. We’d walk there on Sunday afternoons in Winter, with our skates slung over our shoulders. There, I’d skate with my friends and eat MacIntosh Toffee. We’d bring the box of toffee out onto the ice with us to get it cold enough to be brittle, smash the toffee inside, and then let the pieces soften and go chewy in our mouths. After skating, we’d go across the street to Tim Hortons for a small hot chocolate and a Timbit. Then, in the almost-dark, we’d make the long trek home.
It is still a great arena. It turns out, you can go back - you just can’t stay. I took this photo of the clouds illuminated by the city lights as we drove back - back home - to Burlington after the game. |
